Visits to online travel sites up 35%

According to a new report, almost 150 million people visited travel sites last year. In addition, annual online travel revenues reached $60 billion.

We found this interesting but not surprising...

Survey respondents reported visiting an average of three sites when planning a vacation, mainly to search for the lowest price. Almost half the respondents--46 percent--reported starting their research at one of the three leading online agencies--Expedia, Travelocity, or Orbitz. Just one in four--24 percent--started at an airline, hotel, or car rental site.

If people searched the same way for Broadway tickets - by starting with ticket aggragators (like TicketsNow or RazorGator) - then the brokers may have a long healthy life ahead of them.
